  • Virtualize Conference Bridge 7.1 ??

Is it possible to virtualize the converged conference server 7.1 on esxi 5?

  • #2
The old conference bridge itself is running vmware to host a windows XP guest that has office installed to handle the conversion of office documents for sharing.
I'm not certain what would happen if a vmware guest was also a host for another vmware guest.

Underneath it all, the conference bridge is running redhat enterprise i guess there are tools to convert redhat from physical to virtual, but presumably you need to have access as root to run it. There are mirrored SATA hard disks, maybe you can pull one out to take an image of it and plug the image into esxi and see what happens.

It probably goes without saying, it is almost certain that ShoreTel/Alcatel won't warrant the visualised bridge for support.

inception! did you end up resolving this or figuring a way around it? We have one of these old units as well looking to move away from it eventually but would like to have full snapshot/backup of it just in case...

ShoreTel 12 with an SA-100 is much nicer that the old conference bridge.
As far as I am aware there are no more Alcatel type conference bridges left in New Zealand, and there was only the one I swapped out to begin with anyway.
