  • XMPP support??

Shoretel's options of getting the Instant Messaging running within the PCM is very limited.

    A. Going the Converged Conferencing route costs a minimum of $10,000 to setup.

    B. For non MS Office shops, setting up OCS 2007 for just Shoretel IM is a bit of an overkill.

Why not support an open standard, such as XMPP?

    From the XMPP.org:
"XMPP is the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, a set of open technologies for instant messaging, presence, multi-party chat, voice and video calls, collaboration, lightweight middleware, content syndication, and generalized routing of XML data."

I would second this, we have a number of clients who like the idea of a corporate IM capability, but do not have the 10k+ budget to spring for a conference bridge that they would hardly use outside of the IM functionality.

I would 3rd the motion. Have been asked several times why do we have to have such costly applications to have IM...

4th - We've been battling with OCS for way too long and it's far too complicated for some simple IM'ing (with archiving.)

Would love to be able to use something simple like XMPP!

I think ShoreTel would sell more Professional Call Manager if they provided a simple instant messaging engine to use it with for a few hundred dollars.

Don't they already have a conference unit?? Even if this is something new, I'm sure the price will still hover around the $10 grand area. They should just allow us to add an openfire server.

We have a SA-100 in our office as part of the Beta test of ST12.0 right now. I haven't had the time to finish the IM segment setup on it yet (probably take me 10 minutes to finish), then I can decomission our OSC2007 server, as we are moving toward cloud solutions for email, and the IM segment is the last peice to go.

Is the SA-100 a physical appliance or can it be run in a virtual environment?

                      It's a physical appliance.
