  • How about a , for a pause

How about incorporating a , as a pause in the dial string like every OEM does in their phone system. Even my $9.95 Kmart Handheld uses a , for a pause

We have been asking for this for years! Because we use account codes from our LD carrier to bill LD charges back to profit centers, we are prevented from using some of ShoreTel's best features such as Office Anywhere. The ability to add pauses to dial strings in the Shoretel Software would solve this and many other issues (should not matter what type of interface you have, the software is just delaying the DTMF tones for a predefined amount of time so there is a good probability that they occur after the call is connected). Every other phone system I have worked with in the past has had this capability except ShoreTel!

I hope this becomes a reality, as well. We do the same thing with our LD Service. I was NOT aware of this issue, because all the other systems do it, already. We get our new system (and 1st from Shoretel) in a few weeks!

This would be very useful in a number of ways.

We would like this feature to be available in the call manager as well as the director.

Others think it will be useful too. Here are the other posts I found on the forum.

                , for pause

A $99 KSU telephone system will do it; any phone system will except S.......el.

The system is marketed to the IT department not telephone people. Rest assured that for $3600 special services can have a fix for you. They will then charge the next person that requests the fix the same fee.

Well, I guess dont use/sell Shoretel anymore then... All you ever say on here is how bad they are, well, then go back to key systems. Its IP telephony, so yeah, it kinda has to do with networks.

In second to this comment might I point out that while you are complaining about what a KEY system (which costs more than $99 - that will hardly get you good quality 4 line sets with no KSU) can do that a ShoreTel cant, you never seem to mention the great host of things that a ShoreTel does out of the box for free that no key system can do. While I might agree that some, particularly key system, features have been overlooked, it is still about the best phone system I have worked on and provides a great bang for the buck functionality wise.

                      System

I agree that the shoretel system is great. I wouldn't go any other route.

However, that does not excuse the complete lack of thinking which prevented the , to be used as a pause.........

The fact that it is a VOIP system should not, and does not, prevent a comma from being used as a pause.

The problem is that in most people's eyes, a 100,000 dollar system should be able to do EVERYTHING a 1000 dollar system can. Hands down. End of discussion.

My problem with shoretel has always been that they seem to completely miss the mark on the little finishing touches. Their core product is great. They just don't seem to pay attention to the small details...... like UAC compatibility. Ok, maybe thats not so small.

How hard can it be to pause during a dial string. Who do I have to talk to to get this done?
