Would be very useful to be able to import from LDAP directory - Or has this been done with the back end access database?

UserImport.exe
ShoreTel provided us with a user import tool that can pull from a Windows Active Directory. It's intended for initial or "one-time" imports. If you went to any kind of ShoreTel University class, it should be on one of your CDs. The CDs are a great resource and have several very useful tools on them.

As an alternative, you could risk editing the database yourself and adding users OR engage Shoretel Professional Services for help.

This sucks. This contradicts what our ShoreTel reseller told us during our demo a few days ago. He said specifically that it would integrate with both AD and LDAP. When I asked him about this again a little earlier today, he admitted that the AD stuff is "maybe coming in 7.0". Now it sounds like the LDAP stuff isn't even in 6.x.

Well, as for most people currently evaluating systems, it all depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Do you want AD so that users can utilize single sign on? Or just to maintain one directory?

I just want to maintain a single directory. On this note, I just got word from ShoreTel directly about this. Version 7 is going to have a tool that allows you to export info from LDAP/AD and then import it into Director. ShoreTel 8 is going to have additional functionality that is totally not what we're looking for. Some later version will have actual LDAP/AD integration.
That kind of sucks considering the other major players already have LDAP/AD integration. I think someone at ShoreTel dropped the ball on this because they're way behind their competitors.
However, I'm still more impressed overall with ShoreTel than I am with the other systems we've been looking at. It definitely offers the most bang for the buck.
