  • Dell 15th Gen servers

Just an FYI, in case anyone is going out to get a new HQ server, the 15th gen Dell servers won't run Connect. Per Mitel engineering, they won't have a fix until 19.3sp1 or later. Use a Dell 14th gen or older.

What is incompatible on the server?

I am not sure what the cause, but a couple of services won't start. The Mitel engineer i talked to thinks that it is a Chipset driver. Something isn't playing nice with Open SSH. I was going to just load up VMWare or Hyper-V, but they said that they found issues even on virtual machines. They estimate a fix sometime late 2022.

Meanwhile I have a brand new server sitting in the box. Now it is past the 30 return window.

      Service Alert
      Bulletin Number: PB2022Jun23A

The new install or migration of HQ or DVS software fails due to CAS & TMS services failing to start on DELL15th generation servers. The issue currently only affects DELL 15th Generation servers. The issue happens whether running Windows Server (any supported version) natively or running a virtual server, i.e. VMware, and the install is on a Windows Server VM

I missed that alert...mahalo for the heads up! Very strange that the hardware is breaking open ssh, wonder if it is something with the TPM.

It is funny that you bring up the TPM. I remembered an early email from Mitel where they mentioned TPM, so I tried to explain the issues to Dell support (trying to return after the 30 day return window). Well, they came back and mentioned that the server I currently have does not have a TPM chip.

Last month they released 19.3 SP2, which is supposed to have fixed this issue. We already replaced the Dell server with a 14th Gen Dell server and got the system working. Based on the release notes, it looks like there was some incompatibility with the OpenSSL version.
