  • Default to Intercom on internal calls

    Aloha,

We have a prospect that would like to have Intercom automatically engaged when they dial a three digit extension.

Calls from the outside would ring the handset but internal calls would default to voice announce.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Aloha,
    Matt

This is not a built in function, this would have to be a custom of some sort.

We would be willing to look into it, but keep in mind that this wouldn't be cheap. It's not going to be easy to do. If you're interested, could you start by explaining a little more about why you need to do this? Perhaps there is an alternate solution.

          Using The Intercom
With the appropriate permissions, you can speak with a
          caller hands-free.
           Dial *15.
           Enter the extension.
If you are calling an analog phone, the dialed extension
rings. If you are calling an IP phone, your call is immediately
active on the speaker of the dialed extension.
NOTE An intercom call overrides all other call handling
          modes on the dialed extension.

This is free -- just program a button to dial *15.

Depending on who is needing to do this is probably a good place to start.

VJ, That sounds like a great idea except for one immediate issue: You cannot program a button to dial *15. All the star codes are a special feature of the switch and

            1. Can't be programmed on a button.
            2. Must be entered with the phone off-hook.

If you know a way around these limitations, I'd love to hear it! We've had lots of requests to be able to program a button to busy out a hunt group.

You are correct! I keep forgetting that the $20,000 ShoreTel will not do what a $99 phone switch will do.
First learned that when customer wanted to push a button to get dial tone (dial 9.)

There have been other times we have wanted to dial feature codes. I seem to forget this each time.

Thanks for the offer..this is only a 30 phone deal, not enough margin for something like that.

Their current Panasonic does that and according to them it is a must.....time to start selling!
