  • Questions re: Aplication Manager server

We will be installing a new shoretel system. We will have 30 phones and voice mail using an Applications Manager server. The server config will have the Raid 1 setup with automatic fail over.

    Here are my questions:

    1. Our IT consultant wants to install Diskeeper 2009 Server on the App server. Is this necessary?

    2. I know that backups are important so he also wants to install Acronis Disk imaging software and also Symantec Backup Exec, and Acronis Disk Director.
Is all this necessary? Would't Symantec Backup Exec be sufficient?

    I appreciate any feed back.
    Thanks,
    Tony

I would recommend against Diskeeper 2009. I'm rather concerned about the potential problems caused by having it running in the background. ShoreTel has fairly tight timing requirements for playing back the voice mail audio stream.

As for backup, you need to back up the Shoreline Data folder and the MySQL database. It takes only a few hours to rebuild the server and copy these back, so it is up to you if you want to also take disk images. You can back these files up with the backup tool of your choice. If the tool does not natively support MySQL, don't forget to use mysqldump to dump the database, then back up the dump.
