  • QoS Router

    Hello All,

Very glad to find this forum. We have been running with ShoreTel system almost a year. I really like this system; it's easy to manage on my part. We are in-process of rolling out and implement to our remote site which has about 12 users (our HQ about 45 users). Already got ShoreTel switch and P-2T-P connection. Currently, our HQ has Sonic Pro 300 and this one does support QoS feature. I'm looking to upgrade newer router to configure QoS, Traffic priority, and load balancing (We have T1 and looking to get cable internet as load balance). So far, couple vendors came back with Cisco 1811. I'm hesitant to go with Cisco gears because of unfamiliar with CLI and their IOS in term of configuration. Can your guys advise any other gears (Sonic/WatchGuard/etc.) that work well with ShoreTel and less learning curve to setup in GUI as QoS, traffice priority, and load balancing?

    Your input is greatly appreciated.....

    Thx...SMai

Highly recommend Juniper. The new SRX family integrates full firewall (they ported over the firewall technology from Netscreen into JunOS) into JunOS (from their router family).

Juniper is the industry leader in firewall's according to Gartner. You get all of the power of the routing platform (QOS, etc.) along with all the feature functionality from the firewall line.

      Router

      I am a bit confused.

You already have a PTP connection between the offices (not a vpn)?

Are you wanting a device to handle an internet connection at one of the offices, or the PTP t1 connection between the offices?

Perhaps you could expand upon this a little? Not sure what you're trying to accomplish?

Sorry! Just got back from long vacation. To answer your question.

I'm looking for router upgrading our existing sonic firewall in HQ office. This device needs to have feature to setup QoS, Traffic Management, and firewall. I also need another router to setup at our remote office. Eventually, once all setup and configurate, all traffics from remote office going through p-2t-p and hit our HQ router then through the real world.

Since adding another remote office, I figure we need more bandwidth and fail-over in case T1 goes down. So my cheap option is adding another internet connection to do load balancing and fail-over.
