  • Upgrading from 7.5 to 8.1

Has any one experienced any issues with upgrading from 7.5 to 8.1, in particular with the Call Manager clients on the workstation? I am getting ready to do the upgrade in a few weeks to one of those "sacred cow" accounts and the company owner seems more concerned about his PCM than the phones actually working or not after the upgrade. Gotta love when the customers get hooked on the ShoreTel client...

I have found it seems to upgrade fine over the top of the original 7.5 client. But do watch out for RAM and CPU requirements on the 8.1 version.
Additionally you will need to obtain license keys from ShoreTel for Workgroup Agent, Workgroup Supervisor and Operator Call Manager.
There is no Personal Call Manager license key, but there is a new Professional Call Manager which requires a Key, Professional version gives some features such as buddy lists, desktop video and Instant messaging (Though you need a seperate server such as Microsoft Live Communications server to do IM which is licensed seperately)

the default codec change between 7.5 and 8.1 will throw your users a twist. do some searching on 8 codecs on these forums.

we didn't have much problem with the pcm upgrade itself.
