Using the HP Procurve GUI, I created the VLAN 2 and configured the ports that would be connected to a Shoretel phone as "tagged" in that VLAN. The was the same configuration as the switchport that connects to the router interface. (I am using sub-interfaces)

The part that took me a little while to figure out was that I had to go to the CLI in the HP Procurve switch and issue the "ip helper-address" command on the VLAN in the switch. I have it on the router as well but DHCP would not span the switch without it...

The Procurve's are a great product (their high end chassis switches are actually Foundry's rebranded) and we've done a number of installs. When Foundry is out of someone's price range, we always revert to Procurve.

Interestingly enough, Shoretel just joined the alliance that HP created (Mitel is also in it). Hoping we will see some LLDP-MED functionality from Shoretel in the next couple of releases to simplify deployment of phones. Did you enable QOS on the switches (the releases from the past 8 months or so already prioritize DSCP value 46 if QOS is enabled)?
