  • Upgrading from 6.1 to 8.1

    Hello all,

We plan on upgrading all of our clients to the newest code when the stable release comes out. Can anyone point me in the correct direction on how to upgrade a client from 6.1 to 8.1? I understand that an intermediate upgrade to 7.0 or 7.5 would be required but i would just like to know what the process is so i can plan accordingly. Can't seem to find any details on that via ShoreTel's site.

    Thanks!

Check the build notes for the 8.1 version when you download it. They will outline the required steps.

But in a nutshell you have to upgrade the system twice (which you knew). First to 7 or 7.5 then to 8.1. So you will need to make a backup of your Shoreline data directory TWICE. Once before upgrading to 7 then again before upgrading to 8.1.

I have not gone from 6.1 to 8.1 but I have gone from Shoretel 5 to Shoretel 7.5 which is very close to the same type of deal (minus the SQL stuff of course). Make sure to allocate enough time!

I did a complete upgrade on the middle step meaning I rebooted the switches and phones but I would think that you could skip that step as the switches and phones should be able to download the new firmware without the middle code being applied to them. But to be sure I simply did two complete up dates.

    Hope this helps!
