  • Switch up and down

Got 12 sites with a DVM and at the DVM site we have 120 and 40/8, they both are managed by the DVM. If you look at the site in quick look, both switches and DVM will show green, but when you drill down on the switches it shows they show RED, no link status and sometimes no switch details, but if you refresh the screen they will show link status and details. They will stay that way for awhile and when you look again they show as being down again. Its not affecting service at all and WAN connection is not going down and I can ping the switches, any ideas?
    We are running 7.5 build6113

This was a bug. Upgrade to the latest build (12.14.8701) and the problem will be fixed. I believe they fixed this a few releases ago...

The customer said this was happening when they were running a version of 6.1, could the bug have carried to 7.5 6113?

Yes... There were defintely some funky connectivity issues in earlier 6.1 builds that were cosmetic.

The build of 7.5 they are runnign is controlled release I believe and they will want to upgrade. There have been a lot of bug fixes.

Chris is correct it being a bug, even in lower releases.

A couple of things to check as well

Each server ensure DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is off or set to Windows Service and programs only
          Do this in
Start > Programs > Control Panel > System Icon > Advanced Tab > Performance > DEP tap

you will have to reboot your server

DEP has been known to arbitraily shut down services if it is managing everything in the server.

Another point you may want to check and validate, since you said it was happening prio to 7. is the way the Remote ShoreGear SG's are setup (Config)

Everything in the Shoretel system must point to the HQ server, including SG's

the inet host or Server IP in the ShoreGear switch must show the HQ server IP address, if it shows the DVM address this is wrong and one reason why the SG will show red.

When you build a site (Remote SIte with DVM) the SG for the site is pointed to the HQ server. When you add that SG to the Site in Director, your building it to be controlled by the DVM. The HQ will then Proxy all requests to the DVM for the SG Switch.

The SG is looking for status on a DVM not the HQ, this is as stated one reason why. Just FYI to check

Ok so let me get this straight, I'm a little slow. I understand that the SG has to have the IP of the main in the config of the switch, but it is ok to have the DVM manage the SG when you add a switch in the director? You just need the IP of the main server configured in the SG so the SG itself is pointed to the main server?
I'm good with the upgrade and the DEP thing, so I will telnet to both the SG's and check the boot to make sure the IP of the main is configured instead of the DVM IP and of course the DEP.

              Two answer both questions
              In bold
Yes you have that correct, when the SG is installed it points to the HQ, when you add tha SG to the System / SITE your building it under the Site to Control it and selecting Server to Manage Switch in the Switch Page
              I hope that clears that.

              In Italic
In most cases this may correct the issue as well as having to restart the system. (Retart) reboot HQ server, Reboot DVM, Reboot Switch)
worst case, delete the SG and rebuild it

ONLY if this is proven to be last resort.
