  • Mysterious DTMF tones on analog line

    Hi.

I'm a fairly experienced network admin, but fairly new to the Shoretel world. We just installed a 7.5 system.

-we have 25 legacy analog phones in our shop/ factory area and 80 IP phones.
    -3 SG-120 switches, going through a PRI

Anyway, one of my users with an analog phone gets a quick succession of exactly 4 DTMF tones -- about 2 seconds after picking up every call.
You start to say hello, and then -- beep beep bop boop --. Thereafter, the phone works fine.
Almost like an echo of the dialed extension.
This occurs on all incoming calls, whether internal-origin, or external-origin.

It is unique to his phone. This system works great, otherwise.

His shoreware director settings appear to be identical to all other analog phones.
He does have an auxilliary, powered ringer bell to fill the shop with the music of his ringing phone. I disabled that, and the problem persists.
He has a DID number. Not all analog users have that (some are house phones). I disabled that.. didn't help.

I'm outta my league! Does anyone have a clue what is sending these tones?

    Thanks!

That user wouldn't happen to be set as a Fax Server by mistake would they? The fax support field should be User - Redirect or User - No Redirect.

Fax Servers expect DTMF digits to be pulsed to they can email the fax to the right extension.
