  • phones indicate duplicate ip address...not true, however.

my 230 phones indicate duplicate ip address messages every now and then...why?

i did some digging on the network and there is no two IP addresses alike. so, the message is bogus, but what is causing it??

You need to use wireshark to figure this out Ive had this issue before it turned out to be a Broadcom driver while using trunking would send a packet incorrectly. A firmware driver on the server fixed the duplicate IP issue.

      Duplicate IP addresses

Incorrect subnet masks and rouge DHCP servers can cause mass mayhem like that as well.

I have seen people with multiple DHCP servers giving IP Addresses out of the same range more times than I can remember.

i did move the dhcp services to anther server, but it's the only one on the subnet. the old dhcp server is not available any longer.

          Dhcp

Shut off the DHCP services on the new DHCP server. Plug in a laptop and try to get an address.

If you do, then you know you have another DHCP box that shouldn't be there.

There could be an IP Helper in the router/switch... who knows.

Hell, the switch itself could be handing out addresses.

Do you mean a firmware update or a driver update for the Broadcom NIC? Or both?

We just started getting the new Dell servers with 2 nics. The service is called NIC teaming. After playing with it for a bit, we got rid of it.
