  • Blue Power Light on ShoreTel 60/12

    Hey Guys and Gals,

    I noticed that the Blue Power Light on my SHoreTel 60/12 flashes on and off intermittently. The ShoreTel T-1 does not do this.

    What does the flashing light indicate?

    From the Maintenance Guide:

    This sections describes how to interpret the LED behavior of ShoreGear-120/24,
    ShoreGear-60/12, ShoreGear-40/8, and ShoreGear-T1 voice switches.
    Power LED
    ShoreGear voice switches have one power LED, which indicates the following:
    On The switch is operating normally.
    Off The switch has no power.
    Flashing 2 flashes—The switch failed its internal self-test. This indicates a
    hardware failure; replace the unit and submit a Return Material
    Authorization (RMA) to ShoreTel.
    3 flashes—Booting via FTP. Flash memory might be corrupted. Go to
    the Quick Look page to ensure that the system is running properly.
    4 flashes—The IP address is unavailable. DHCP and BOOTP did not
    respond to the IP address request, and the IP address is not available
    in nonvolatile memory to continue boot process. The switch will
    automatically reboot in five seconds and try again. Check the BOOTP/
    DHCP server and the network configuration to ensure that the voice
    switch is receiving a valid IP address.
    5 flashes—The operating system is not available. The switch is
    booting from FTP but cannot find the boot files. It automatically
    reboots in five seconds.
    6 flashes—Using a previously stored IP address. A BOOTP/DHCP
    transaction was attempted, but the BOOTP/DHCP server did not
    respond. The switch continues to use the IP address stored in
    nonvolatile memory until it receives a valid response. If the switch
    receives a response that provides a different IP address, it reboots
    using the new IP address. If the switch receives a response that
    matches the IP address stored in nonvolatile memory, it continues
    operation, and the power LED stops flashing. If the problem persists,
    check the BOOTP/DHCP server and network configuration.

      I have Three Flashes on 60/12

      Looks like I have the Three Flashes condition. Quick look says that my switch is "FTP Booted"

      Could it be that my Flash Boot file is corrupted? How can I replace it?

      Does this file get served up by ShoreTel FTP server on my call director?

        Have you recently done a software update? If the power to the switch was interupted during the upgrade it will FTP boot. You can fix that using the burnflash command on the server which is documented in the maintenance guide.

        Regardless you can try the burnflash utility to reinstall the boot image in flash, if it doesn't work then RMA the switch.

        The boot files come from the ftp on the ShoreTel server. They also come from the FTP server when you burnflash so the server has to be reachable from the switch. Normally a switch boots up and compares its firmware version to what the server ftp has available, if the versions match then the switch boots from the flash image. If they don't match then it does an upgrade and then boots from the flash image.

        If the flash image is not bootable (i.e. corrupt) then the switch will down load the image from the ftp server and boot from that out of RAM, it will also log an eventid and show up in SWD as FTP booted.

          that helps greatly. I will loookup the burnflash utility.

          RMA is not an option for me. I am out of warranty. no service contract either.

              What if the switch will not respond to the command, i.e. I get a message that says 'error: connect to switch 10.0.2.242 failed.

                you should connect a serial cable to that switch and verify that all the TCP/IP parameters are correct. make sure the gateway and netmask, and IP are correct, homie!

                  I performed a burnflash on my SG50 which seems to have permermed it's tasks without error but the switch still says FTP Booted. It's out of warrenty so I can't RMA it. Aside from forking out thousands of dollars for another SG50 does anyone have any other brught ideas to fix it?

                    connect a serial cable and change the menu option under configuration to tell it to flash boot instead.
