  • Analog loop start

    I just discovered that we have 3 analog loop start. We have 3 PRIs and 50 Call paths - SIP. The way our system was configured during the initial installation, PRIs are the primary and if the PRIs go down, it will switch to the SIP trunks. Now if we lose both (supposedly) the 3 analog loop start should kick in. How does this work? I tried calling the numbers associated with the analog lines and it all rang at our security desk. Does this mean if we lose the PRIs and SIP trunks security desk will still be able to make outbound calls? Or just receive inbound calls? Is it just for the security desk or for everyone but depending if there is a line available?

    Least cost routing will use analog as the last option if nothing else works.
    Look at trunk groups>the analog loop start group for the destination where they will ring for incoming calls.
    As far as who can dial out on it, you gotta check the user groups, towards the bottom you'll see which trunk group(s) the user group is allowed to use.

      As long as the user groups have access to all three (SIP, PRI's, Analog) then there is a natural order on outbound calls. This is the Least cost routing Bo8by mentions. Calls normally use SIP first, then PRI, then analog. So if your system is configure to use PRI's first then SIP, this means you have some custom weighting done on the trunk groups to make the PRI's a lower cost than the SIP....again, this is just Outbound.... inbound is completely separate. If you are looking for failover on inbound between the SIP, PRI, and Analog, then this would require configuration by the telco.
      The analogs will always ring to the destination defined in the trunk group. The SIP and PRI can of course use DID and DNIS. However, you do not want to program the same DID in two different trunk groups as this will cause issues (flapping)... for failover you could use the DNIS to assign a number to a destination....so for example if a number 555-555-1234 came in on the PRI but you wanted to allow it to have failover to the SIP, you would have to have the telco take care of the failover that would send that DID in on the SIP when the PRI is down. Then you would need to assign that number in the DNIS table of the SIP trunks to point to the same destination it is assigned to in the DID table of the PRI.
