  • System Monitor

anyone using it? Just looking for others thoughts on it. I am using it and am having some good results but my license renewal should be coming up soon and I was considering alternatives. The only real negative I have right now is that it is licensed on ports not devices so if I add my main wiring closet switches to the monitor, I add a couple of hundred ports and overrun my license. thoughts:

What are you trying to monitor? I used it for a while but I wanted more features. I ended up going with NetQos. It has a reporting tool that sifts thru the data and gives you the real dirt in your network. It is pretty expensive, but well worth the dough. Another software to check out is NetIQ. It has a neat QOS test module that will help you diagnose problems in a crunch.

Which products from NetQOS are you using? What is the price range?

We are using the entire NetQos package. Cost for entire performace center with all modules is right at 100K. We were looking at getting the VOIP Monitor and the report analyzer at first, but we wanted the abiltiy to monitor our production databases as well. It also makes it real easy to find congestion or connection issues. When there is a problem it will automatically run a forensics analysis and have the report waiting on you. For that amount of money it should fix the problem! The thing I like the most is the ability to baseline the network and then be able to nail the phone company to the wall if they are not providing there minimum SLA.

We have been using it for three weeks now, but don't really use it much. It's not real pretty or a ton of detail, but it's not bad. It all depends on what you want to do or use it for; not bad for the money.

we are using it to monitor out wan circuits and our key network devices. It does a pretty good job I guess, just don't like the way it is priced, and the fact that when we bought it shoretel had just bought it and released it last year and didn't seem to know much about it..... and still don't.
