  • Shoretel Licensing

If I buy used equipment that and the phones were already licensed by ShoreTel, do I need to relicense the phones a second time?

Shoretel doesn't have phone license's. Licenses for extensions, and softphones, but not for phones.

      Shoretel licenses

Maybe I should have worded it this way. Are the licenses transferable?

If you buy the package deal (switches, phones, and the Shoreware Server) then it will probably be fine. However, if you don't have the Shoreware Server (which runs on Windows Server 2003) then you will have problems. If you already have a Shoretel setup, and just buy the phones, you can buy more extension licenses from Shoretel. I do not know if it is possible to delete the license key from the server of the person you are purchasing from and enter it on your current Shoretel server. It would be worth looking into, though.

If you can contact your Shoretel partenr there is a process out there to recertify the gear. I am pretty sure you will need to purchase new licenses as they are not tranferable as far as I know.

Licenses are transferrable in certain cases. You should work with your Shoretel partner who can work with the appropriate resources at Shoretel to make this determination.

We had to buy new licenses. I really don't agree with that but.... You don't have to buy a new license when you buy a used computer... I don't understand it but...
