  • Event 8003 errors. Up to a dozen daily

    Even details:

    Event ID: 8003
    Source: MRxSmb
    Type: Error
    Category: None
    Description:
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer BLAHBLAH that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{10D9B9DD-8DBD-40. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

"Blahblah" is just a workstation. And not in the building all the time. It doesn't seem to be causing any other issues, but I was curious what it's about & how I could prevent it in the future.

    TIA as always.

Although this article references Windows NT, most of the information is still correct.

      Palitto, thanks for the reply.

Based on that from MS, my next question would be, is it safe to disable the browsing service?

Our Shoretel server isn't part of our domain, so I wasn't sure if it was safe or not.

      TIA.

Yes it is safe to disable browsing service on workstations. We do it all the time. Leave it running on a few servers is fine. One of them will become the master broswer. OK to stop on Shoretel servers though.
