  • clipping and jitter on softphone

We are experiencing distorted sound and clipping on voice using headset with a ShoreTel Softphone.
Shoretel version is 9.2 with call manager build 14.40.9006.0. Operating System is Vista service pack 2.
Did not have this probelm in 8.1. The probelm started only after upgrade to 9.2. Nothing else on the network or the environment has changed.
Have tried to tweek sound settings in Vista to no avail.
Have tried to tune and tweak the network adaptor, but the issue still exists.
Have also used a different headset and computer with no luck.
The computer is only one hop away from the Shoretel switch and there is no prioritisation or vlans or any spanning trees configured on the network.
ShoreTel support blames everything else and is no help.
Has anyone else experienced this probelm?

wireshark the call. Using wireshark listen to the audio, then you will know if it's the stream or the PC

Have changed the codecs, no luck. Wireshark trace had some checksum errors but they were related to Vista and the network adaptors offloading IPv4 checksums. Disabled this on the adaptor this got rid of checksum errors.

If there is clipping in the stream, it is on on the Softphone, it is either the network or the source. What are you calling from, and what is the route the traffic is taking to get to the vista softphone client?
