  • Defining the local area

We have several phones that have "local only" call permissions. Our local calling area contains area code 562 and hundreds of prefixes in eight other area codes. We would like to allow local calling to the correct set of prefixes.

We have tried setting the trunk group local prefixes, but calling any of these prefixes from a “local only” class of service gives a reorder tone. If we add an area code to the “Additional Area Codes” for our site, the call will go through from a “local only” phone for that whole area code.

It appears that “local” is only defined by the site definition and there is no local prefix list in the site definition. I assume that the trunk group prefix list is for least-cost call routing.

    Are we missing something?

    Thanks,
    -Bruce

nope, you are right on. ShoreTel is going to be adding prefixes to the site plan in the future, but currently local is the entire area code in the site plan. You can add additional area codes, but that will make the entire area code local. If it is only a few prefixes, you can set it in the user group, but this is limited to 255 characters. Your only other option is a custom dial plan. You can either try ShoreTel, which will cost 500, try doing KB12996, or try Packet Fusion (650) 292-6038 as they are doing ShoreTel custom dial plans as well now.
