  • Secondary Extension

I have a user with an extension (personal ext) but she also takes calls for a secondary extension "IT Support". An ext and mailbox. She is using PCM, I am not sure what the proper way is to set this up so that she can answer calls on the secondary extension and also see when there are messages in that mailbox.
    Thanks.

Try a "Monitor Extension" button on the PCM with a target of the other extension.

Yes that does work, however what I really need to do is make sure the user knows there is voicemail in that mailbox. The monitored ext works well for the incoming call but I need the visibility to the voicemail box as well.

The icon for the monitored extension on the phone should change to a "tape" icon when a message is waiting

I don't see the "tape" when a monitored extension has a voicemail in it. We are currently on 9.1. Is this possibly a setting thing?

On the phone if I change the button mapping as well to the monitored extension, I see the "tape" but in PCM it does not show that the ext has a message.

Another option would be to set message notification to notify the appropriate person. You may have thought of that already.

                Some options:

                1. Make your "IT Support" extension a workgroup instead and make this person a member. Then it has a mailbox and she can answer calls for it.

                2. Configure the IT Support user's mailbox options to forward VMs to a workgroup voicemail box. Make the user a member of that workgroup. You don;t need to use the WG for anything except the mailbox (i.e. no calls).

Either of these will make the voicemail indicator appear when a message is waiting, IIRC.
