  • Maximum Latency?

We have a customer with a site in the US (with 50 users) and a site in India (with 100 users). We are concerned about latency between sites (we expect between 200 and 250ms). Are any of you running customers with similar latencies and what experiences have you had? Is this a fail for this project?

We've been running 3 offices in India that have latency that averages between 225-275 ms and voice quality seems to be fine. We have, however, had some issues with the IP8000 phone quality/stability.

Don't forget that the supported latency for voice is 150ms. Pas that and you are on your own. If you don't have any issues then that's great but....

Isn't that one-way latency? So a total of 300ms round trip for "acceptable" quality?

It is 150ms each way but you are getting pretty close to the threshold at 275ms.

Yeah, we are definitely going to have to let them know what we're getting into questionable territory. This particular customer doesn't seem to care all that much (they've been fine with Vonage until now, apparently).

We have a client with sites in Australia and USA with 220ms between continents. It all works fine but we had to adjust the max jitter buffer to about 100ms also have to use G711 and not G729a to get good voice quality.

You might want to plan for a better codec in your bandwidth.
