  • Voice Mail and Workgroups

Since switching to 8.1 we have had some "issues" with voice mail and the work groups.

1.In our "big work group" (4 people) we have issues where only one person can empty the work group voice mail deleted items folder.

2.When more then one person is checking voice mail we get some weird issues, even though one person is starting at the top of the list and the other person at the bottom.

    3. Occasionally 1 or more of them cannot get the work group voice mails to play through the phone. Their own personal voice mails will, and the work group ones will play through the PC. I tried restarting the client on the users machine and then it worked, but I am not sure if it was the restart or because the other users where no longer in the voice mailbox.

Has anyone else had these or other issues with work group voice mail and 8.1?

Each Person will need to be a supervisor

What issues? How do they start at the bottom and Top, I do not understand?

Sounds like a bug, or enviroment to the PC

I would suggest looking at the Release notes first for the version of 8.1
Many times you can alleviate questions by discovering they are known issues. Also make sure your at the latest and greatest Software version (Especially if your CR or Beta) if your version of 8.1 is CR or Beta then upgrade to the latest available version

      1. the individual that has been always able to delete the voicemails, is not a supervisor, there are none set for any of our workgroups.

      2. There is a list of say 10 voice mails, one person starts at the top of the list, and another starts at the bottom listening to them all.

As far as the specific issues they have been variable and I cannot totally discount user error. Since I can't very clearly and concisely list the issues I didn't want to list all of the symptoms and confuse the issue. But the general theme tends to be issues with playing back voicemails, them not playing back or playing back the wrong ones.

      3. That was my first assumption as well, however I have been told that this wasn't the first time and it has happened to the other users.

In general I have asked them to be much more consistent in reporting any issues to me so that I can document them and their resolutions to see if I can find the pattern.

Unfortunately, the group of people who use these functions are among the most technology illiterate and almost never report issues to me. I often only hear about things accidentally or because they are at the point where it wont work at all.

We are in the latest available version and I can find nothing in the release notes that indicates issues like these.

I have a customer with workgroup voicemail issues on 8.1 as well. I've been working with TAC for the past 2 months. Their only resolution is to upgrade to a newer build without saying what the actually problem is and no guarantee that an upgrade will fix it.

          :beta1:

Unfortunately this is the standard operating procedure at ST. With Wiesner in charge it will on get worse

Here is one specific I was able to get today and was repeatable.

Multiple people cannot check the voice mail at the same time. Even when they are sure they are not on the same message.

Normally it doesn't come up as there are usually only a handful of messages, but due to the holiday there where alot and they were trying to help each other.

We have been having tons of trouble with work group voice mails and voice mails playing from the PCM in general. I have experienced the same issue as you have about having a different voice mail played than the on you have highlighted in the PCM.

*Most* of my voice mail playing issues have been PCM related, and specifically related to having the PCM open when I hibernate my laptop each night. The typical solution is to close down the PCM (i.e. right click on the icon in the system tray and choose 'exit') and then re-launch it. Occasional I will get a PCM task that spikes to 100% when I do this, which I simply kill the task before re-launching the PCM.

I have a ticket open with TAC on this and they are aware of the issue. Like you, I get the typical "upgrade to the latest CR or Beta release" jazz. I'm also experiencing an issue where the message waiting lamps to not get lit when a voice mail is left for a workgroup. Overall, I think there are still some bugs as they relate to voice mails and workgroups.

Easiest fix so far... Email all WG members a copy of the VM as a .wav file so they can listen to it without all these dumb issues...
