  • Softphone only environment

Has anyone tried to only use or implement softphones throughout their environment? We are proposing to do just this and wondered about other success stories and potential pitfalls.

    softphone only

We are currently running 8.1 and we have a small group of 30 users on softphones. Unless you want calls 1 or 2 a week (my group are not heavy users - so imagine if this was a call center). I am going to be upgrading to 8.1 build 13.24.5910.0
Lets hope that helps. The phones drop off or loose connection to director and there are a list of problems once that happens. Kind of hit and miss with users.
I will follow up once I do my upgrade.

Bump - I'd be interested to hear some more feedback on this as well. We are currently considering a softphone only solution in an organization of about 45 users.

We originally tried it for about 30 staff and quickly got real phones for everyone. The softphone is great for road warriors but not for full time use

Can you elaborate as to why?

One of our clients is a small (30 agents) but high volume call center that is all softphone and have been since Version 4. No problems.

Have a customer that uses soft phones for their inside sales force (10users) very high call volume and it works great. They save a bunch of money on phones, but make sure you get good headsets. I don't see why you couldn't run soft phones, usually if you have issues with soft phones its not the software its a client or network issue.
