Event Filters for Outside email addresses

I am trying to enable event filters to send to an outside email address. Currently, when I set my target email address that is also the email address that it sends from and my exchange server does not allow this because it is a different domain. Anyone got a work around? I enabled relaying from the Shoretel server on teh exchange server, but that didn't fix it.

Send it to a mailbox (in exchange) that forwards the emails to your external email.
