The switches have been sold - sorry for not responding sooner. I wasn't getting email notifications from the board for some reason.
I agree with Charles, the whole attempt by ShoreTel to basically make used hardware worthless is shameful. I bet if the leasing companies knew about it, we would be unable to lease them as they would theoretically have no residual (resale value) at the end of the lease, or in the event of a repossesion.
As for Jenn's comment, ShoreTel SAYS the licenses are not transferrable, but that can be worked around depending on the situation, i.e. change of business name, etc. It really depends on how you approach them.
The only issue is support, which can be renewed for a 20% surcharge. The $750 fee is NOT to recertify the switch, it is for sending in a switch for repair/replacement that is not on support.
eBay switches are fine if you buy them from a reputable seller and use PayPal in case you get a bad unit.
The used ShoreTel market is small, as most companies just uprgade firware as part of support, and because as a whole the partners keep the customers happy.
Most of what I have seen for sale in the last year have been from defunct mortgage companies with large systems.
Thanks to those of you who have offered alcohol - I appreciate it! It sure would have come in handy after a week of four installations, one of them on opposite coasts on the same day...
