Windows 64 Bit Support

Hello,

My company just recently installed a Shoretel system and after everything was up in running, much to our surprise it does not support a 64 Bit client.

Due to the high demand Vista makes on hardware, manufactureres are beginning to push PC's out the door with 64 Bit Windows. HP is selling PC's at Best Buy that have Vista 64 Bit preloaded, and when you order online that is an option presented along with 4GB plus memory!

Will Shoretel step up to the plate and support 64Bit architecture any time soon? I've asked this question to sales reps and support personnel repeatedly and get no response.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

ShoreTel is not making a push for 64-bit support because no body uses 64-bit Windows.

It is on the development roadmap for this year (probably Shoretel 8.1).

I presume you're referring mostly to Call Manager, but development of their admin/vm platform to support 64-bit is also something I presume they are looking at. Clearly the 32-bit platform is "enough" to do what they need to do, but anytime you want to approach real time operation, running in native mode is preferable to "chunking" and like it or not, Server2008 (admin/vm platform) and Vista (call manager platform) are already that direction.

Given the performance hit (as seen in Task Manager) of running a large extension map in the Operator Call Manager, native 64-bit and lots of memory might help it co-exist better with other apps a receptionist might run.

I'm glad to hear it's in the roadmap.

Actually, I think I recalled incorrectly and it is slated for Shoretel 9. Then again, the development schedule changes constantly...

I have successfully gotten the Shoretel 8 Client to work on 64-bit Vista by doing the following:

1. Shutdown all instances of Outlook and Office Communicator on your workstation (You can end all processes for outlook.exe and communicator.exe using Task Manager on your workstation).
2. Download and Install .NET 2.0 SDK, click here to install .Net 2.0 SDK (Skip this step if you have this version installed.
3. After installing .NET 2.0 SDK, click Start and Run from your desktop.
4. Type cmd and click OK, a command prompt window will display.
5. Change to the .NET framework directory that has CorFlags.exe (i.e. “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft.NET\SDK\v2.0\Bin”)
6. Type CorFlags.exe “C:\Program Files (x86)\Shoreline Communications\Shoreware Client\PCM.exe” /32BIT+



UPDATE: The TAPI portion still does not work. So while the interface comes up and you can see your contacts and set the mode, dialing does NOT work. Still working on that...

I have a user here at our office that has been wanting a 64 bit CM for quite some time now. I do have a question though...Does the Outlook integration with the CM function properly with your work around?

This is something that I hope is streamlined very quickly by shoretel.

80%+ of all new server installations are 64 bit now. I believe that desktops ARE indeed starting to phase that way as well.

I know we have internally started testing 64 bit clients.

To believe that everything will not be 64 bit sooner rather than later would be like believing that (Bill Gates Quote) "256K RAM should be enough for ANYONE"

We currently have 64bit windows on all of our users in Engineering Department. It's what they need to get the desired performance from thier main apps.

They would probably be some of our heaviest pcm users if it ran native on 64bit.

We set up hoping this was going to be sooner rather then later.

--edit- Anyone try it on 64 bit XP ???
--edit2- Okay, we can get it to run, but no TAPI support = not running it for us.
