Unhappy Linux version of ShoreTel Call Manager Client

My employer has installed a ShoreTel system, and the desk phones themselves are difficult to use. Logging in and out of your queues for instance requires no fewer than 11 key presses. Many other options are not accessible at all without the ShoreTel Call Manager client software, which runs on Windows-Only (wine will not suffice, I tried). Well half of us use Linux on the desktop (after all, half of us are linux system administrators!) and we have to use either Remote Desktop or VMWare to access a Windows system to work the phones. A shared Terminal Server seems a good idea, but in practice it's slow, and you get disconnected from it at odd times. VMWare is better, but a resource hog locally (not to mention having to pay an additional Micro$oft tax!). I'd like to see either a native linux client, or a web-based gui built into the phone itself where we can access all the phone's features. (Outlook integration is not important, but LDAP integration would be nice.)

Use the webclient located at http://{shoreware_server}/shorewarewebclient

It has the same functionality as the call manager software.

Well, you don't get call handling with it. You can just change call handling modes and their configuration.

The original complaint is the amount of key strokes it takes to log in and out of the work group. What type of phones do you have?

You can add a log in and a log out button to the phone. Then it is just a one push of a button. This does use up 2 of you buttons.

Workgroups

We created buttons ACD+ and ACD-

We have found that it can take 2-5 minutes for a workstation to completely boot up in the morning. Users cannot wait 5 minutes to login to their workgroups (using the PCM) and the 11 keystroke thing is a bit of a drag.

I REALLY wish shoretel would modify the button properties to TOGGLE workgroup status. That way, you could create one button to login/logout of workgroups. Right now you have one button to login and a different button to logout. Waste of a button.

Thats what the ECC is for ShoreTel will not add anymore features to the Canned Wrk Grp feature already in place, It is what it is. Syntelect is the other option for a ACD / Wrk Grp by ShoreTel

Also I am curious just to ask, what does the 5 minute boot up of a PC have to do with ShoreTel?

Linux, VMware is not supported, VMware will have numerous Call quality, connection and many other issues. Linux? well talk to the ShoreTel Sales Folks on up coming events

You have to understand Bottom line is ShoreTel is a WINDOWS CENTRIC application, PERIOD BOTTOM LINE, the rest your on your own. ShoreTel is very clear on what platforms are supported, you can save yourself a world of hurt here. I would question any reseller who tells you differently

I don't think he's asking for more features from the Workgroups, just the ability to login and out of them with only one button press.
