Trunk routing 101

Have some basic questions.

On a multi site install.

HQ has a PRI
A few other sites have a DVM and PRI
other sites have 2 or 3 local trunks.

Will all local calls route out the local trunks groups? If local trunks are in use will the Local calls then go to a "parent's" PRI?

IS ther a way to access particular trunk groups using BCA?

If the "User Group" of location "A" has access granted to use the "Outgoing Trunk" or PRI of location "B", then yes. It will pick up a channel on the PRI that is local to the number you are dialing. All of my locations have their own User Groups, so I can control each location's access to whatever trunks or lines that are in the entire enterprise.

Example: I have a PRI in Cleveland and one in Birmingham. If I dial a number located in Birmingham from my desk phone in Cleveland it will grab a channel on my Birmingham PRI and call it locally there.

You can watch your call routing live by remoting into your HQ Server and launching the Trunk Test Tool in the ShoreTel Programs Menu. Very slick..

Hope that answers part of your question.

I know about the "local call" routing but I am trying to get a handle of the "all local trunks are busy I need a trunk from a different site but only a site defind as a parent" I know there is a Trunk Group modifier out there (something like;15g) but that doesn't seem to show which groups are usable and not usable under these circumstances

Yes, for each site you specify what the parent is (ie Headquarters) and enable "Use Parent As Proxy" for calls to route out the parent PRI if the child site PRI is busy.

I may be mistaken but I think that only applies to 911 calls (non-routable calls)
