And conversely, PCM 8.1 will not run on 64 bit Windows.
So the answer is, don't try to run PCM on 64 bit unless you're on 9.1.
We have all this long thread just to get to that conclusion?

However, if you are using Win 7 x64 and are on 8.1, you can run the call manager successfully in XP mode. If you want your Outlook contacts, you will also need to install Outlook on the XP mode VM and configure a mail profile. You will probably also need to use the FQDN of your ST server or the IP address.
The performance is acceptable for now, but you will not have a softphone and the startup is rather slow.

Hate to disagree with you, but we are a Shoretel Dealer and Microsoft Partner, we have about 20 PC's with mixed Operating System consisting of XP, Vista and 7 RTM in both 32 and 64-Bit variants. We have PCM 8.1 working problem-free on ALL PC's without any kind of virtualisation.
The only issue we had was that PCM failed to connect to the phone on first install on 1 of the 64-Bit Windows 7 PC's, this was narrowed down to the missing TAPI config as detailed in other threads, an uninstall and reinstall resolved this.

I have 9.0 running on 5 windows 7 machines, 2 of them 64 bit... no tweaks or special tricks, works fine... I do install thru GP which also installs .net framework 2.0 - maybe those having trouble should try to manually install the 2.0 version of .net framework and see if it helps.

Interesting, Neil. Thanks for the info. I'll try harder to install PCM on Windows 7 64-bit.
What build are you using on those 7 64-bit systems?

Hi Neil - what build of v8.1? I am running 13.24.5909.0 and it works on everything but 64-bit systems. We've tried the TapiRepair.exe and runas admin for the setup.exe. Works OK on Win7 PRO 32-bit, but it's a no-go on the Win7 PRO 64-bit machines.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark Evinger

This will allow the installation to properly create the TAPI services and registry entries on your machine. I had many of the same problems with my first attempts until I used this method. So far it has not failed me. I am currently running ShoreTel 9.1 with the PCM software on a Windows 7 RC, 64-bit personally.
I hope this helps somebody.

This helped me! Thanks
I couldn't get 9.1 build 2904 PCm to run properly on Windows 7 64 bit and the above instructions fixed it first time.

I also wanted to thank you for this advice as it did work for me too. A new Dell XPS1340 running Windows 7 64-bit and PCM 9.1 was able to connect to the Shoretel server to get voicemails and see directory, but the phone kept showing as line out of service (greyed out with the little red x). Working with our phone vendor, we noticed that the Shoretel TAPI definition was missing in the Phone and Modem-> Advanced settings, which seems to be the dead giveaway in this circumstance. I tried the Vistarepair.exe and and also Tspinstall.exe and repeated re-installs and re-boots, but nothing worked UNTIL I copied the Client install files locally onto the laptop and did a fresh install using those by right clicking Run As Administrator on the Setup.exe.
I have encountered the exact same symptom of PCM 9.1 communicating with the server but not the phone on Vista Home Premium 64-bit and even one Vista Business 32-bit...I am hopeful that this same approach will solve these issues.
THANK YOU!

[UPDATE]: Using this same technique, I was able to get PCM v9.1 working on Vista Home Premium 64-bit today.
