Any way to script a dial command outside of PCM?

Sorry for all the questions I've been shooting out there. Can you tell I'm a new Shoretel client?

Anyway... Does anyone know if it is possible to tell the PCM client to dial a string either via command line, or some other method? I would like to develop an app that can auto-dial a number for users when they click a button in the application (i.e. not a within the PCM, but use the PCM to place the call.)

Still working out the bugs, but the answer is yes.

In fact, even cooler, I have found a way in Lotus Notes 8 to use "Widgets" to highlight any phone number or extension to dial. So now, no matter if I'm in my email, calendar, a travel expense report, master directory, IT help desk, etc. if there is a phone number, Lotus Notes will find it and make a link that I can just click on it and it will start dialing!!! Wait tell the users see this, they are going to LOVE IT!

Contact ShoreTel Professional Services, they have an add on script to do this.

Shoot, they even charge for the Web Dialer which you can get yourself for free!!!

For Lotus Notes Widget stuff...

1st, must be running Notes 8.
2nd, learn about widgets in Notes 8.
3rd, create a widget that opens *any* web page. Just get it configured.
4th, export the XML file from the newly created widget.
5th, modify the XML file to navigate to url="tel:<q>" (translated = tel:<q>).
6th, re-import the XML file back to widgets.
7th, add action to recognize the built in Phone Number (IBM put a lot of work iinto that recognizer).

8 - close all, open up any document, click on any under-line.

NOTE: I obviously gave a high-level overview here, there are some fine details in this that probably need to be addressed.

Now if someone can tell me how to auto-sync Lotus Notes address book with PCM contacts for free, I'd be very appreciative of it!

ShoreTel will not support Lotus Notes, so if anything goes wrong, your on your own, do not waist your time with TAC

The Web Dialier does cost money,

I am curious to those who complain about cost, do you walk into Ford after you buy your car and ask for leather seats for free

It is amusing to me, how people do not understand the aspect of capitalism. For them I ask do you give away free systems? Labor and components after the sale?

Why should ShoreTel? or anyone for that matter.

I know they have 30 day trial Pro Services

As if I didn't know that Shoretel will not be supporting my Lotus Notes hack! (duh). That is why it is a *free* hack. If I want support, I don't mind paying for it. Obviously these features are not mission critical or a business objective for us, otherwise I would pay for their services.

I do not expect Shoretel to give away systems for free, nobody on this list does. However, there are certain aspects that do seem a tad over the top, such as $50 per license for a product that all it does is enable you to click on a phone number on a web page and have it dial your phone. Not sure why this is worth 1/3 the list price of the PCM? Why not just add it in as a feature of PCM Professional so that the Pro edition actually has added features making it desirable over the standard license? (integrating IM with a poor MS solution is just not a compelling enough reason to purchase the Pro license.)

Your condescension occasionally gets in the way of your information. It is not a matter of not understanding capitalism; frankly, that assumption is insulting. The question is whether a company which develops solutions for its products decides to provide those solutions with or without cost.

Providing them without cost to the consumer can be beneficial; it increases the value of the product. Certainly they have a right to decide they wish to charge for their services, but sometimes this makes sense, and sometimes it does not. I can't say which is the case this time, but sometimes being penny wise leads to being pound foolish.

JLorenz, we all appreciate the answers you give here, but I think the attitude is interfering with the message.
